Winemaking in Spain dates back several centuries. The most crucial time for wine production in Spain began with the expansion of the Roman Empire in 218 B.C. Since then, Spain has made its mark as a certified wine country.
Spain grabs one of the top spots as the world’s third-largest wine producer after France and Italy, respectively. Boasting nearly a million hectares scattered across almost 4,300 wineries. The next time you’re in a city in Spain, going on a wine tasting and vineyard tour is an absolute must.
Your Spanish wine tasting journey typically begins with a guided walking tour of the vineyard, winery, and cellar. You’ll stroll through rows of rare grape vines, chilly underground cellars, and beautiful Spanish architecture boasting ornate stucco walls, terracotta tiled roofs, and soft arches.
Wine tasting in Spain is nothing short of a gastronomical adventure. Indulge in a multi-course meal featuring tapas and other distinctive Spanish dishes. All while tasting delightful wines brimming with intense flavors.
Most of the best wineries in Spain work hand-in-hand with local wine producers and family-owned boutique wineries. Each of these establishments grows and ferments its grapes in different styles, which means no two wines are the same.

Best Time to Go On A Spain Wine Tour
Spain’s Mediterranean climate is illustrated by its warm, arid summers and cool, wet winters. This means that this prominent wine country is ideal for year-round visits. You can visit in autumn when the vines are lush green and the ripened grapes are ready for harvest.
But the ideal time to go is late spring or early summer when holiday-makers typically flock to the coastlines to visit the best beaches in Spain.
Wine Tours in Spain: Package Options & Tickets
All Spain wine tour packages commonly share the wine tasting experience. But many others choose to stand out by offering optional additions like a tapa tasting, multi-course meal, or walking tour around a prominent Spanish neighborhood.
These packages vary in costs, from budget to luxury. But the popularity of these tours often leads to fully booked trips, so it would be wise to make a reservation ahead of time or purchase a skip-the-line ticket.
With skip-the-line tickets, you’ll have priority access to skip the long queues and waiting lists. These tickets often come with add-ons like separate entrances, air-conditioned roundtrip transportation, and visits to UNESCO World Heritage Sites like historic Toledo.
La Rioja: Winery Tour with Tastings and Traditional Lunch

The Catalan countryside is known for its passionately independent people, their unique language, innovative flair, and creativity. Their impressive capacity to absorb different influences has led to the region boasting Romanesque art, medieval mountain monasteries, Art Nouveau masterpieces, and Roman ruins.
Catalan wines are rare and more sought-after. The wines also tend to be more pungent, higher in alcohol, and bear darker fruit flavors.
Keep In Mind: The Montserrat winery works closely with low-wine producers and family-owned boutique wineries. Should logistical issues arise, you may visit another cellar instead of Oller del Mas.

We visited three different wineries all amazing places with a rich history. Enrique was an amazing guide who truly seem to love what he is doing. Very knowledgeable and experienced when it comes to wine. We went in knowing very little about wine in general and I feel that not only did I have an amazing trip where I visited spectacular places but I also learned a lot in the process. I can not recommend this enough!

We had a great time on this tour and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Mariana was an excellent tour guide and worked hard to ensure everyone enjoyed the trip. She combined a strong understanding of Spain's history with a sense of humor to bring the places we visited to life. She was very passionate about her country's culture and more than willing to answer any questions we had. The bus was air conditioned and comfortable, and the tour guides narrated the hour ride to and from Montserrat which made the time go quickly. The views at Montserrat were absolutely breathtaking, and we highly recommend doing the hikes the tour guides will mention (as well as sampling the liquors made by the monks). The vineyard tour was also fantastic, and we learned a lot about the art of making wine. Overall, a truly unforgettable experience!

Best tour I have ever booked! Dani the host was excellent in sharing his knowledge regarding history and his experiences being a native “Valenciano.” After the walking tour we headed to a private restaurant where we were the exclusive guests!! The food and wine were the best we have had all trip traveling throughout Spain. The food as he mentioned was food preferred by the people of Valencia rather than the food served in restaurants that cater to tourists. His detailed explanations regarding the ingredients and why it was a native preference was impressive. His extensive knowledge of the wines and particular grapes was great too. Our trip to Valencia will be memorable thanks to this amazing experience. Don’t hesitate to book now as I am sure when the word gets out it will be full!

This was perhaps the highlight of our trip to Valencia! Mattias was a fabulous guide, we loved his knowledge but also his humourous way of sharing it. We probably picked the hottest most humid day of the year and Mattias ensured he found shady areas for us to stand while he was explaining the history behind the buildings. The wine and tapas meal was OUTSTANDING! We had 1 sparkling, 2 white, 2 red, and 1 dessert wine along with the 10 tapas courses. I wasn't fond of the dessert wine but enjoyed all of the others – even bought the 2 reds to take home. And every single tapas dish was DELICIOUS. I highly recommend this tour!

Definitely recommend booking this activity, it was the highlight of our trip to Valencia! Mimi was our guide and she was so knowledgeable, answering any questions about the city or the wines with ease. The food was delicious, catering to any allergies/dietary requirements as well. Great wines too and we had a fantastic group!
