Madrid To Segovia Day Trip

We have always found the people of Segovia to be very friendly and helpful. And if we had to choose between a visit to Avila or Segovia when planning your trip to Spain, we would definitely pick Segovia and leave Avila for another visit.

This amazing Madrid to Segovia day trip is a remarkable way to see all the main points of Segovia, while also being filled in on some interesting history. And if you find yourself stuck wondering what to do in Segovia – your guide will know just the thing! Check out some of the stops you will enjoy on this tour:

The Cathedral Of Segovia, Spain

This must-see stop on your tour was completed in 1577 and is open to the public on weekdays and weekends. The Cathedral of Segovia is located in one corner of the Plaza Mayor, at the center of the city.

The Alcazar of Segovia

During the Middle Ages the monarchs of Castile made the Alcazar a frequent place of residence. The castle was a key fortress for control over the Castile region of Spain. Now it’s one of the most visited monuments in Spain!

Do take the climb up the tower on your visit – from here there are fantastic views of the city and surrounding area. The canopy behind the two thrones bears the arms of the Catholic monarchs and is inscribed “Tanto Monta” (it makes no odds). The stained glass window holds an image of Henry IV and is a modern work. The ceiling was restored to look like the one destroyed in the fire of 1862.

The Aqueduct Of Segovia

Aqueducts are impressive structures. The Romans made them out of large blocks, and this one still stands relatively straight after 2000 years.

Tip for when you’re there: notice the slight shift in the second layer of blocks and how the first layer was just laid on an existing, native rock.

Segovia Day Trip With Walking Tour

Embark on a journey of a lifetime to Segovia via a luxury bus and get dropped off at the stunning aqueduct upon arrival. Admire one of the best remaining examples of Roman engineering, built over 2,000 years ago to transport water to the city. Go to the Visitor Center to see a model of Segovia and watch a presentation that will help you to decide which monuments you would most like to visit.

From here you will be able to enjoy a 90-minute walking tour to get to know the city with a local and bilingual tour guide pointing little details out to you along the way.

Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, the buildings of the “Old Town of Segovia and its Aqueduct” include Romanesque churches and the unusual fortress of the Alcázar.

Relax on the luxury bus as you travel back towards Madrid in the afternoon.

This tour was advertised as an English speaking tour, however, it was merged with additional tours and became a Spanish/English tour with over 60 people. It was confused from the very start as staff couldn't distinguish members from each group and wasted 30 minutes sorting through various colored wristbands. Once the tour started, the percentage of Spanish conversation versus English conversation was about 70/30. The guide made an effort to satisfy the English speaking members of the tour but the size of the group made it impossible to get the personal attention that was promised.

This tour was great . The tour guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. The provided us enough time for the tour and also to walk around on our own. They also provided us opportunities to upgrade our tour package to include a lunch.

We had a driver but not guide. Anjel, Angel, was the driver and he did an excellent job showing us where to walk in Segovia to see the major sites. If I did the trip again, I would request him and still not require a guide

This was basically an expensive car service. We paid to be picked up at our hotel in Madrid, driven to Segovia, and then driven back to our hotel about 6 hours later. The driver was very professional and nice, and he was a very good driver, but he didn't know anything about the town or how to get to the sites. So, I would just advise you do your research and make sure you know where you're going if you book the driver only version of this trip.
