At this UNESCO World Heritage Site, you’re destined to find a family vacation that encapsulates the millennial creator as well as the medieval historian within.

Hot air balloon flying over Segovia

Although it is currently used as a museum, the history of the Alcázar of Segovia is profound.
The castle was originally created as an Arab fortress, made with mostly wood that outlined the foundations left from the Roman era. It has since been transformed into a royal palace, a state prison, and used as an Artillery college.

This beautiful piece of architecture was noted to be the inspiration behind Cinderella’s castle in the Walt Disney film and has noteworthy architecture and some stunning views. It was built on a hilltop and situated where two rivers meet. These rivers flow out of the Guadarrama mountains, which are about 20km away.

Just an hour from Spain’s capital city, there’s a little bit more adventure to be had in Segovia’s Castle after your bike tour through Madrid. Read further to learn more about prices and tours.

Traveling alone to Spain, I wanted to make sure that I was on English speaking guided tours. I had booked this tour based on the inclusions listed in the description, requesting an English speaking guide for both Toledo and Segovia. I am 0% satisfied! On the bus ride to Toledo, we had a tour guide that was speaking in both Spanish and English. There were people on the bus that were doing a half day tour and others going to different places from Toledo, which was confusing. Upon arrival in Toledo, I was introduced to who I thought would be my guide, David. David did speak English, but informed me that I would be on my own in Toledo and to my surprise, he asked me if I had a map. No one had ever given me a map, so he instructed me to go up the escalators and obtain a map in the information center. He informed me that I was to meet back at the drop off point at 12:45, giving me approximately 90 minutes to find my way through the city on my own. He then left with another guest, leaving me to find my way through the city alone. I was confused, thinking that others had more time before having to leave and that was why I was sent on my own. I spent the 90min trying to maneuver the town wandering aimlessly through the streets. I learned nothing and saw none of the expected sites listed in the overview, spending endless time lost on the many small winding streets feeling like I was in a maze. I was extremely disappointed and quite frankly, scared. Upon making my way back to the drop off point, I managed to connect with the bus driver to Segovia. He only spoke Spanish and there was no guide accompanying him. I was all alone with the driver on the 2+ hour drive to Segovia with no information provided along the way. During the ride I called the Trapsatur office to confirm that I would have an English speaking guide when we reached Segovia. I was told that Javier would be meeting me there and would be my guide. Javier took me to a tavern, dropped me off for the included tapa, then instructed me that I was on my “free time” once again on my own for 55 minutes to wander the streets of Segovia alone!! He instructed me to meet him at the castle gates for the tour of the Alcázar castle. The only thing that was promised in the description besides the 1.50 Euro Tapa. I was instructed to email Trapsatur about the situation, but have not heard back from them. The description of this tour is not what you will get.Do not book this or any other tour with Trapsatur!

Trying to be positive, Toledo and Segovia are "must visit locations", but the day trip we did to see them was mostly spend in the bus. If time allows, do two separate day trips. Otherwise you see nothing as time just did not allow

Tour pickup point is not identifiable. Name is not shown on voucher, making it hard to find pickup point. Tour guide not explaining enough the scene saw by tourists. Not enough toilet stops.

If you have the extra time in Madrid these cities are a great choice. Beautiful ruins and a lot of history. Our guide Tamara was good but I felt that the additional time of the commentaries in Spanish took away from the depth of background that could have been provided. OVERALL RECOMMENDED.

The sites were really amazing to see, especially the Segovia castle. I really enjoyed hearing the history and we covered a lot of ground with rest in between as we traveled to each site. Javi was our guide and he was great.

I feel our guide was very good however it was such a distraction for him to speak English then flip back to Spanish then English then Spanish… for people having a hard time paying attention ….. you lose it… after going by something on bus by the time it’s English you have passed it and lost the intent of information.. after awhile I took earpiece out and stopped paying attention… beautiful tour but would have appreciated so much more if we had English tour and seperate Spanish speaking tour.. plus it started late and we sat in lobby without anyone giving information… disappointed with this company in particular

Toledo and Segovia are not to be missed! This full-day tour with Sergio and Belen made it very easy to explore and learn the history and sites in both cities in a single day! Between the Aqueduct to the Cathedrals to the Alcazars, there’s enough sightseeing to fill your memories. Thank you Sergio, Belen, and Amigo Tours for a wonderful experience!
