You can taste the various Orujo products on Saturday evening in the stands of the Orujo producers at La Serna square. Decorated with leaves of grapevines and items of artisan origin, these wooden cottages form a pretty sight. However, it is better to visit them during the day time, since in the evening they are packed with people trying to get Orujo samples, which are served in tiny mugs. Besides the producers, also some Orujo shops let you taste the different varieties.

There the atmosphere is much more peaceful, and you can get to know Orujos from different producers in one place, without crowding from one producer stand to another.

Fine and Exotic Handicrafts

The festival offers a good opportunity to take a view of the traditional handicraft products. People wearing quaint clothes made of wool with colorful decorations, wooden walking sticks, as well as backbags made of pelts and hides give a nice touch to the atmosphere. The most peculiar part of the getup, however, is the shoes. Resembling clogs, they have three high heels, two in front and one in back.

Watching the parades you can get a good picture of the traditional dresses of Liébana..

At first sight, these richly decorated, large wooden shoes, look very unstable und uncomfortable. But the locals assure you that together with woolsocks they are nice to wear and very practical in the snow and in the farmyard.

Like most of the Spanish festivals the Orujo fiesta is laden with music, dancing and singing. Miscellaneous folkloristic groups have performances on stage and in the streets. A parade of authorities accompanied with musicians and participants in traditional dresses is one of the opening ceremonies.
