| During the Middle Ages the monarchs of Castile made the Alcazar a frequent place of residence. The castle was a key fortress for control over the Castile region of Spain. |

Do take the climb up the tower on your visit. From here there are fantastic views of the city and surrounding area.

To the left is a photograph showing a section of the wall in the Galley Chamber. This mural shows Queen Isabella the Catholic being proclaimed the Queen of Castile and Leon. The actual event took place in the main square of Segovia.

The Throne Hall (photo left)
The canopy behind the two thrones bears the arms of the Catholic monarchs and is inscribed "Tanto Monta" (it makes no odds). The stained glass window holds an image of Henry IV and is a modern work.
The ceiling was restored to look like the one destroyed in the fire of 1862.
