El Escorial is located about 41kms. to the northwest of Madrid's center, near the Sierra de Guadarrama. The primary tourist attraction is the palace/monastery complex of "San Lorenzo".

On leaving the monastery we were ready for a refreshment and snack, so we spent a few minutes exploring the town before heading back to the bus station. We ended up at an open air cafe, where it seemed to take forever to get a drink. Consequently we opted to forgo the snack.

As we headed back in to the center of town from the monastery, we stumbled across a new and used shop to explore.

On right: It must be wash day.
